Direct Import CNP
One of K&L's good friends in the business is Alain Corcia, a broker in France who is the source of the three highly rated direct buys within this email below. Here's what wine writer Robert Parker has to say about him and the wines we're offering here... "These are the personal selections of wine broker Alain Corcia. All of the wines are blends from top estates put together by Corcia, an accomplished taster as well as blender, and then aged either in foudres or in smaller barriques and bottled with very little clarification. Since he has a distribution system that directly imports from him without any middle men, prices are modest. (Feb 2007)"
We continue to urge you to go deep on 2005 Rhone wines. From the Wine Spectator... "I am confident in giving the vintage (2005) a classic rating of 97 points on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale, equal to the superb 1998 vintage."
2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Collection Alain Corcia "Patricia" ($24.99)
90-92 Robert Parker: "Far deeper, richer, and fuller-bodied than the 2004 is the 2005 Cuvee Patricia, which exhibits a deep ruby color, beautiful notes of licorice, sweet black cherry liqueur, roasted Provencal herbs, and a hint of spice box. It is full-bodied, rich, and certainly ageworthy. (It can take approximately 10-12 years of cellaring.) These are the personal selections of Burgundy wine broker Alain Corcia. 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Collection Alain Corcia "Julie" ($29.99)
90-92 points Robert Parker. "One of the few Chateauneufs that is aged 100% in all one-year-old oak and made with a heavy dose of Syrah is the Cuvee Julie. The 2005 Cuvee Julie, which is 60% Grenache from 90-year-old vines, 30% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault, exhibits classic black raspberry and sweet cherry notes in the nose and a deep plum/ruby color. It is a big, spicy, earthy style of wine with full body and plenty of power, richness, and depth. It will probably require 1-2 years of bottle age and drink well for 12-15. 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Collection Alain Corcia "Eleazar" ($39.99)
90-93 points Robert Parker. "A top cuvee from Corcia is his Andre Eleazar, which is also a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault, but in this case all from 90- to 100+-year-old vines. This wine is also aged in 100% barrels, but they are one to two years of age. Potentially better than the 2004 is the 2005 Andre Eleazar. It is a slightly fresher, more lively style because of the vintage’s acid profile, but exhibits deep black cherry and earthy fruit, plenty of tannin, good fat, and loads of licorice, black cherry, and currant notes. This wine will need 1-3 years of cellaring and drink nicely for 10-12+ years. These are the personal selections of Burgundy wine broker Alain Corcia.
