Direct Import Rhone - Top Pick

There may not be a better buy in stock than this wine below. Fans of Grenache and Syrah-based wines need to look seriously at the 2005 Rhone vintage, a year that the critics are loving. Wine Spectator... "I am confident in giving the vintage a classic rating of 97 points on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale, equal to the superb 1998 vintage."

2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Grand Veneur ($29.99)

92-94 points Robert Parker: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape looks to be a winner, one of strength, richness, elegance, but full-bodied power and plenty of deep, smoky black cherry and blackberry fruit intermixed with some herbs, roasted meats, spice, and earth. It is a beautiful wine that will probably benefit from 1-2 years of bottle age and drink well for 12-15 years. Readers have to distinguish between the negociant wines of Alain Jaume, which are under the label “Alain Jaume,” and his estate wines, which appear under the “Grand Veneur” label. In both cases the quality is extremely high and unlike many estates where prices have dramatically soared over recent vintages, Grand Veneur’s proprietor, Alain Jaume, continues to offer very fair value for the quality."
