What We're Drinking

So why is the 2012 Ladera Cabernet—made from almost entirely from Howell Mountain fruit, from an incredible vintage—sitting pretty at $34.99? I honestly can't tell you. Maybe it's because no one knows how good the Ladera holdings in Howell Mountain are. Or maybe it's the pride that winemaker Jade Barrett takes in making a serious wine for a reasonable price. Or maybe it's because Ladera is an overlooked gem in a sea of Napa alternatives. For whatever the reason, I'm not going to complain. We tasted the 2012 vintage at our staff training yesterday and I was just floored by the quality of this wine. Dark, fleshy fruit cloaked in fine tannins, bits of earth, and in total balance, with enough gusto to go the long haul in your cellar. It's a whole lotta wine for $34.99, and it's made primarily from Howell Mountain grapes, harvested during a great vintage.

Keith's Burgundy Hotline: Ramonet!

By: Keith Wollenberg | K&L Burgundy Buyer

Hello Burgundy Lovers,

We have just received our 2009 Domaine Ramonet wines, and as always with this fabled grower, supplies are limited, so they will not be around for long, so I wanted to let you all know.

2009 Domaine Ramonet Bourgogne Rouge $23.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Bourgogne Aligoté $24.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Bourgogne Blanc $29.99

Lovely and balanced Chardonnay from a master of the grape. This entry-level white Burgundy is an amazing value and it shows minerality, citrus fruit and rich length in equal measure. A distinct pleasure to purchase and to drink!

2009 Domaine Ramonet St. Aubin 1er Cru "Charmois" : $42.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet : $48.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet "Enseignères" : $57.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Chaumées" $76.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Caillerets" $84.99

2009 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champs Canet" $96.99

In addition, we have a tiny handful of bottles of the Grand Cru wines.  I cannot promise any of these, but please let me know by email if you are interested.

2009 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, $175.00

2009 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, $195.00

2009 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru, $350

2009 Domaine Ramonet Montrachet Grand Cru, $675.00
