What We're Drinking

2000 Labégorce, Margaux $39.99

A great value in Bordeaux! This bottle is mature enough to drink now, but has time in hand if you want to keep it in the cellar for the future. We love it for its laid back elegance and classic balance. A must try for your next nice steak dinner.

Food-Pairing Friday: Lamb Burgers

Lamb burgers with mint and pistachio salsa verde by Brooke Burton of Food Woolf.I love to cook, and cook up a storm. I have no problem with whipping up a batch of homemade tagliatelle on a Thursday night, or two-day slow-cooked smoked Carolina-style pulled pork. But sometimes I want dinner to be simple, to leave more time for lounging on the patio (in our case a tiny cement space between our bungalow and our neighbors) inhaling the fresh sea air and less time standing over a steaming sink of dishes. Which is why I so love this lamb burger with mint and pistachio salsa verde recipe from my dear friend Brooke over at Food Woolf. It's savory, summery and super easy.

Foodwoolf's Bourbon-Soaked Cherries

Photo by Brooke Burton of Food WoolfRemember the old axiom "Waste not, want not?" Well it's especially true when talking about your farmers' markert haul. Blueberries like tart poprocks, tomatoes so sweet you finally understand why they're considered a fruit and figs with paper-thin skins are incredibly perishable. But you can prolong the deliciousness of summer's fleeting flavors with time's tastiest preservative: booze.

Foodwoolf's Master Cherry Cocktail

Photo by Brooke Burton from FoodwoolfMaster Cherry Cocktail

It's peak cherry season! If you're anything like me, you've been looking for every possible way to incorporate Raniers, Brooks and Bings into your diet, from yogurt topping to sorbet to clafoutis. But there may be no better way to enjoy them than mixed with the ne plus ultra of vermouths, the Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth ($25.99) and the distinguished Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon ($24.99). My dear friend Brooke over at Foodwoolf combined these two spectacular sprits into the Master Cherry Cocktail, which is sure to take the edge off a bad day, and make watching the US play Ghana this weekend even more fun.
