What We're Drinking

With the James Bond movie Spectre being released today, no time could be better to drink Bollinger. The most suave spy in the world has been sipping on Bollinger since Moonraker in 1979. While we can’t all drive a fully loaded, customized machine gun having Aston Martin, we certainly can chill down a bottle of Bolli! The 2004 Bollinger "Grande Année" Brut Champagne ($109) is as good as Champagne gets; all barrel fermented and full of masculine, Pinot Noir power and high class elegance. We even have a few bottles of the limited 2009 Bollinger "James Bond 007" Brut Champagne ($195) in stock for the diehard fan of Bond & Champagne!

Spanish & Portuguese Wine News:

By: Joe Manekin | K&L Spanish & Portuguese Wine Buyer

Greetings all,

Well, we've got rosado on our minds this time of year. Here is a list of  what we have right now, a good balance of shades of pink, varying levels of fruitiness (all dry, though), acidity, and as always, a few fizzy options.

2012 Raventos "La Rosa" Penedes - $19.99

2012 Ameztoi "Rubentis" Rosé Getariako Txakolina - $19.99

2012 Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina - $14.99

2012 Xavier Clua "El Sola d'en Pol" Rosado Terra Alta - $10.99

Also, our first couple en rama sherries have arrived and are likely to go quickly. More on that next week, though, provided we've still got some in stock....

What We're Drinking

The K&L staff had fun this weekend. Here's a sampling of what they drank. How about you?

Mulan Chan-Randel, K&L Rhône and French Regional wine buyer: At my friend's house for an outdoor dinner: Grilled salmon in grape leaves, entrecote of beef, assorted grilled vegetables, artisanal cheeses, macaroons and flourless chocolate cake. We paired all that with: 2001 J.J. Christoffel Urziger Wurzgarten Spätlese, 1992 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, 1981 Palmer and 1962 Palmer. I have very nice friends.

Anne Pickett, Redwood City: I had a glass of the 2008 Julian Chivite Gran Feudo Rosado from Navarra with three kinds of tapas: Garbanzos con Chorizo, papas bravas and pan con tomate. A la Furia Roja!!! Salud!!

David Othenin-Girard, K&L Spirits buyer: I had the 1998 Montfaucon Côte de Rhône - It was ridiculous!!! I also had the Kern River Brewing Company's "Just Outstanding" IPA.  It's so good that no one will be able to find any...
